I am travelling back up to Sheffield this weekend via Berkhamsted for a BBQ at LCP Consulting before the real intensity begins before Rio. It's a great way to end our 'week off' and seems a poignant time to write a quick update as they, along with Uniserve, have contributed so much within the supply chain industry towards my #RoadToRio. At the national centre in Sheffield, we are extremely privileged to be part of the GB team and I, for one, am looking to make the most of the amazing support we've had.
Next week will involve a lot of planning (as well as picking up the Rio kit!) and the next couple of months will be arduous so it's key that we manage our training well in order to get the best out of the opportunities ahead. It's something I've been through before so I know how important it is to avoid injuries and be in the best shape possible going into the Games. Most of the hard work has already been done and, whatever happens, these next few months will be a culmination of everything in our lifetimes so far so it's time to just give it everything.
When I last wrote about my #RoadToRio in May, we were about to leave for tournaments in Slovenia and Slovakia. I was hampered a little bit in Slovenia but came back strongly to reach the final in Slovakia which gives me a top 4 seeding for the Paralympics. I was pleased because I know I wasn't at my fittest but still managed to dig in and get some decent results, and it certainly shows that if I can get things right in the run-up to Rio then I will have a great chance.
Coming up, in between training in Sheffield and Plymouth, we have another training camp out in Slovenia later this month which is always really beneficial due to the higher quality of practice partners. I always feel a lot sharper after coming back from Europe and hopefully it can kick me up another gear once again. Also, next weekend is the 'Team Launch' in Westminster and it will be nice to see all the athletes from the other sports. We don't fly out to Brazil until 1st September so that still gives us another few months to 'get things right'.
